What is PRP for Hair Loss?
PRP for hair loss is a novel, affordable solution for thinning hair. Although not the first, PRP for hair loss is one of the newest, least invasive, and cost effective hair loss treatments on the market today. That’s why PRP for hair loss is the exclusive hair treatment here at Minneapolis Anti-Aging and Skin Clinic.
In order to understand how PRP for hair loss works, it’s helpful to first understand what PRP actually is. In short, PRP stands for platelet-rich-plasma. This plasma is a naturally occurring component of your blood. More importantly, PRP has been shown to have significant rejuvenating properties. (In fact, PRP has previously most often been associated with Mirconeedling and PRP injections for facial rejuvenation purposes.)
When a patient comes in, a small amount of blood will be drawn. That blood will then be processed so as to separate the red blood cells from platelet-rich plasma. The plasma is then injected into the scalp.
What Does the PRP Do?
Platelet-rich-plasma is derived from certain proteins in your blood stream. Because of the centrifugal processes used, PRP is significantly richer in your own growth factors and cytokines than you would typically find in your body. This means that PRP is a potent way to introduce rejuvenating elements into target areas.
In terms of what it does for hair growth, PRP begins a healing cascade that’s rich in nutrients and growth factors. This process strengthens hair follicles and, for many patients, encourages growth!
Who is a Good Candidate for PRP for Hair Loss?
Hair loss affects 35 million men and 21 million women in the United States. Most people tend to think of thinning hair as a masculine problem—but the issue crops up quite often for women as well. PRP for hair loss is an excellent choice for both men and women looking to diminish the effects of thinning hair.
Generally, good candidates for PRP for hair loss:
- Experience thinning hair
- Have a receding hairline
- Are in generally good health
- Refrain from smoking or using tobacco products
- Have realistic expectations about what PRP for hair loss can achieve
Because PRP for hair loss is a non invasive procedure, there are a wide variety of candidates who can undergo injections. PRP may not work for everybody, but the best way to determine whether you’re a good fit for the procedure is to schedule a free consultation at one of our three locations.
PRP for Hair Loss Results
Patients will likely start to see results over the course of several weeks or months. Most PRP for Hair Loss patients will require between 3-4 treatments. These treatments are generally spaced one month apart.
Patients who respond well to the PRP for hair loss injections will begin to notice a thicker, fuller head of hair beginning at roughly eight weeks. The results may be subtle at first, but will likely increase over the course of the full treatment.
Many of the patients who undergo PRP for hair loss report significant improvements in hair growth. But they also report increases in confidence and self-esteem. Patients love the fact that they don’t have to feel self-conscious about going out anymore. They don’t have to make sure they have a hat for every occasion! They can just let their hair flow a little more freely, a little more confidently than before!
